From Uzhhorod to Stratford (Film)
Project type
Film
Date
2024 onwards
Location
Stratford-upon-Avon
When Russia invaded Ukraine, thousands of people found refuge in the small town of Uzhhorod in western Ukraine. Local director Vyacheslav Yehorov saw the parallels between the refugees’ experience and the themes of King Lear, and involved them in the creation of his play.
In June 2024 the company came to visit Stratford-upon-Avon to perform at the RSC’s The Other Place theatre. I worked with them to create the film 'From Uzhhorod to Stratford', which tracks the first four days of their visit ahead of their first performance.
This film was created as part of my work as Living Cultural Collections Developer for The Royal Shakespeare Company, through which I collaborate with communities, artists and other creative practitioners to produce artworks that interrogate, respond to and add to the RSC Collection.
